Title: Self Reflection for Content Mastery of the History of Philippines
The Content Mastery took place at SHBIE in room G.49 on Monday, 10th February 2010. The group was divided into 5 people. Basically, the Content Mastery of the history of the Philippines consisted of 4 parts, and I as the first presenter had the opportunity to do the first part of our content mastery. Moreover, the first part consisted of 2 subtopics, the nature and impact of the Spanish rule and Pilipino response to Spanish colonialism.
For my reflection, I have done a lot of thing; both good and unconscious mistake. For the good things, first, I have done my slide powerpoint colourfully. The slides are not so wordy compared to the other groups. The slides consisted of information in bullet points form and concept maps, making the slides simple and interesting. I used different colours on some of the words to emphasise that the words that have been highlighted were the concepts that should be understood by the peers, following the work of scheme. Secondly, the handouts were different from the slides. It is more detailed than slides in the powerpoint presentation. According to several comments about my voice projection, my voice projection was good, loud and clear. My level of confidence during the presentation was very high. I also felt excited to present.
However, despite all those pros, there were also the cons. Firstly, according to the comments from my peer, Marwan Zainal and Assistance Lecturer, Aswandi Mahadi, I had difficulty to connect from one part to another, especially on the part of Katipunan. I would like to clarify that the Katipunan part should have been done by the second presenter. She was not able to come to prepare her point and slide a day before the presentation, telling us that she could not come. This had caused the obvious weakness of mine during the presentation; I was not able to continue or take over her task. It was stated by some of the peers who recognized the lack of connection between an event with another in my presentation and this is what Dr.Thong always mentioned; history is about connection from one event to another.
Other important element in my reflection here is that I talk too fast, making some of my words unclear. The reason is because of the time constraints but I know it should not be blamed. So from here, I understand that it was lack of time management. My presentation took about 10 minutes to complete. What I need is more practice especially on my language skill and time management.
As a conclusion, I am not satisfied with my Content Mastery presentation and with what I have done because of my weaknesses however to be a positive thinker, nobody is perfect. I have tried my best for my presentation and would like to thank all my group work members who had manage to give their cooperation and concern on our presentation for Method of Teaching History Mastery Content. I’m also thankful to all those comments that have been given and criticized. The critics had not lowered my self-esteem but will motivate and challenge me to do better for my next presentation.
